Stephen Truelove will present a talk with piano performances about the music and chess career of Bela Rozsa (1905-1977). Truelove is a pianist, composer, and chess player who graduated from Rozsa’s music program in 1970 at UTulsa. He will play one of Rozsa’s piano pieces, two fugues he wrote for Rozsa’s counterpoint classes, and premiere to recent compositions he wrote especially for this occasion in honor of Rozsa.

A Festival of Lessons and Carols
One of the most beloved traditions of Advent and Christmas from England is a form of worship known as the “Festival of Lessons and Carols.” God’s Word is proclaimed and contemplated in a special sequence of readings, prayers, as well as choral and congregational song. Our festival will feature readers from The University of Tulsa community and the Cappella Chamber Singers directed by Kim Childs. The service of lessons and carols was first conceived for use in the Truro Cathedral in the late nineteenth century. It was simplified and adapted for use in King’s College Chapel, Cambridge in 1918, by Dewan Eric Milner-White.
Refreshments will be served following the program.
For more information, please call Sharp Chapel at 918-631-2546.
Single Reed Studio Recital
TU clarinet and saxophone students will perform a variety of solo and ensemble works showcasing their repertoire studies from the fall semester. The program will culminate with a performance by the newly formed TU Clarinet Choir under the direction of Dr. David Carter.
SOMA and Music Alumni Homecoming Reception
SOMA and music alumni — come home to Tyrrell Hall on Friday, Oct. 25, 4-6 p.m.!
SOMA members and music alumni alike are invited to join the fun at Tyrrell Hall and tour the beautifully remodeled former home of the School of Music. Bring your best memories to share with old and new friends at a wine, beer, and finger food get-together. Our music faculty will be there to say “Hi!” and join in celebrating their great success growing the School of Music’s enrollment for two straight years with the help of SOMA.
SOMA members have done an extraordinary job over the last two years revitalizing the School of Music. Thanks to your efforts and generosity, not only has the number of music majors taken a huge jump, but the marching band has gone from 55 to 95 just this year!
Director Matt Schepers and his 2024 Sound of the Golden Hurricane will be honored guests and perform outside Tyrrell Hall for everyone to celebrate.
Music at TU is on the move again! Let’s keep up the momentum going and show our continuing support at Homecoming Tyrrell Hall.
