Lights On TU

The University of Tulsa and greater Tulsa communities join the Student Activities Board in turning on 1 million blue and white lights campus-wide as we welcome the holiday season! Plenty of free food and desserts along with coffee, cocoa and cider (spiked available for sale with ID), as well as activities including make-your-own ornament, DIY jingle bells, writing letters to Santa, and s’mores. Everyone can enjoy Christmas caroling, free Goldie plushies, and photos with SANTA! (Lights On TU shirts will be available for TU students.)

Free parking is available in the lots at East Eighth Street and South Harvard Avenue just a short walk from Chapman Commons. Shuttles will be running for those needing assistance. Ride share drop-off is at the stop light at East 11th Street and Tucker Drive.

This annual all-ages event is open to the public.

(This event was rescheduled from Thursday, Nov. 30, to Friday, Dec. 1, because of inclement weather forecast in Tulsa.)

Lunar New Year Festival

Lunar New Year is one of the most important celebrations in Asian culture. It has an estimated 3,500 years of history that originates from celebrating a good harvesting season, worshiping gods and asking for more substantial harvests in the future. This year, most countries who celebrate this holiday are celebrating the Year of the Rabbit, whereas Vietnam is celebrating the Year of the Cat. To celebrate this event, we will be providing food from various caterers (vegetarian and vegan options available), hosting a boba fundraiser, showcasing dances and performances and holding raffles between performances. Attendees will also enjoy games and activities such as DIY red envelopes and lanterns. For the last performance, there will be a lion dance performed by the Hung Viet Lion Dance Association from Oklahoma City. This event is free and open to the public.

A toast to the end of classes

TU students are invited to Sharp Plaza for a festive evening toast to the end of classes and the beginning of reading days and finals. Enjoy live holiday music by the Bravo Brass Quintet, stilt walkers, fire dancers, cider, hot chocolate and free food!

Goldie Tree registration

Many people are finding it challenging to provide gifts for the children in their lives this holiday season. The TU chapter of the Student Veterans Association (TUSVA) and the McKee Veterans Success Center are proud to support the Goldie Tree, an annual project to supply gifts for the children of TU students, faculty and staff who find themselves needing a little extra help. If you would like to register for the program and share your wish list with TUSVA, please register online before Nov. 28. (Please note that present pick-up will be coordinated to protect your anonymity and will be Dec. 13-15.)

Haunted Harwell Hall

The TU community is invited to experience Lambda Alpha’s annual haunted house at Harwell Hall. Drop in any time from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. for candy and a spooky walk-through of Haunted Harwell!

Breast Cancer Halloween

Breast Cancer Halloween, hosted by the Association of International Students (AIS), is an annual fundraising event to support breast cancer patients worldwide. Breast cancer is a global health issue and millions of cases have been reported; thousands of lives could be saved each year if people are more aware of the early symptoms and the benefits of taking appropriate treatments. As October celebrates both Pink Month and Halloween, our event’s goal is to raise awareness by hosting a Boba fundraiser, gathering donations and sending letters to those who are fighting breast cancer. We also feature tasty food and international candies so students can have a great time while learning more about breast cancer detection.

Anthropology Department Holiday Party

Join the anthropology department for a potluck dinner and holiday party. Bring your favorite dish to share!

There will also be a white elephant gift exchange (bring a gift, get a gift – $10 maximum value), followed by a holiday movie selected by the Lambda Alpha GroupMe.
