SOMA Winds

SOMA Winds is a symphonic wind ensemble made up of UTulsa alumni and musicians from the community who love performing wind band music. The mission of the School of Music Advocates (SOMA) organization is to assist students in the School of Music as well as young musicians in other majors from across the University.
 
The performance is free, and the public is encouraged to attend.

Artist Talk & Gallery Reception: Alexis Petroff

The Alexandre Hogue Gallery presents Floating & Folding, an exhibition of mixed-media works by Chicago-based artist Alexis Petroff.

Please join us for an artist’s talk by Alexis Petroff in the Jerri Jones Lecture Hall (Phillips 211) at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 23, 2025.

There will be an opening reception in the Alexandre Hogue Gallery from 6–7 p.m. Refreshments will be served.

Alexis Petroff has been exploring the relationship between drawing and sculpture for the past twenty years. With a background in printmaking and hand papermaking, he makes three-dimensional works using wire, paper, silk and gouache. This exhibition will feature his large-scale folding drawings alongside three-dimensional paper forms that float in the shallow space parallel to the wall.

The Alexander Hogue Gallery is open 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. weekdays. This show is free and open to the public.

Alexis Petroff lives and works in Chicago. Selected solo and two-person exhibitions include 65GRAND, Chicago, IL; List Gallery at Swarthmore College, Swarthmore, PA; Adds Donna, Chicago, IL; Mess Hall, Chicago, IL; Evanston Art Center, Evanston, IL; Indiana University Fine Arts Library, Bloomington, IN. Reviews of his work have appeared in Art Forum and ARTnews. His work is in the permanent collection of the Art Institute of Chicago and numerous private collections.

Artist Talk: Feature Film Editor and UTulsa Film Alumnus Daniel Tarr

UTulsa film alumnus and 2010 Outstanding Film Senior, Daniel Tarr, will talk about some of his early award-winning short films, such as “Sherman and Pacifico”, the bonkers start he got in movies when working on legendary Oklahoma filmmaker Terrence Malick’s feature film, “To the Wonder” and his first feature as an editor, “Sasquatch Sunset”. Daniel is currently editing the new feature, “Alpha Gang”, starring Cate Blanchett and Dave Bautista, written and directed by David and Nathan Zellner. Q&A will follow. Free and open to the public.

An Evening with Joseph Alessi

Please plan to join us for a special evening of music presented by NY Philharmonic trombonist, Joseph Alessi, on Monday, Oct. 13 at 6:30 p.m. This event is being held in collaboration with Saied Music Company and should attract high school students and teachers from across the area.

The Alexandre Hogue Gallery presents the inaugural Sarah J. Clark National Works on Paper Biennial.

The 2025 Sarah J. Clark National Works on Paper Biennial features works by 40 artists from across the country, juried by Mary Weaver Chapin, Curator of Graphic Arts at the Portland Art Museum. The artworks represent a wide variety of media, including etching, lithography, relief prints, screenprinting, collage, photography and painting.

The Alexandre Hogue Gallery is open 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. weekdays. The exhibition is free and open to the public.

This exhibition was made possible through the support of Ben and Nan Clark, in honor of their daughter, Sarah Clark.
