We Are Cherokee: Cherokee Freedmen and the Right to Citizenship

We Are Cherokee: Cherokee Freedmen and the Right to Citizenship tells the story of the Cherokee Freedmen community, from chattel slavery’s beginnings in Cherokee Nation through emancipation, and their fight to be recognized as Cherokee Nation citizens. In partnership with the Oklahoma Center for the Humanities, this exhibition is on display in downtown Tulsa at 101 E. Archer. Admission is free.

We Are Cherokee: Cherokee Freedmen and the Right to Citizenship will be on view Aug. 4-Sept. 23, 2023. 101 E. Archer’s regular gallery hours are 12-5 p.m., Wednesdays through Saturdays.
