Tarot and the Motion of Fate with T. Susan Chang

October 23, 2023, 7:00 pm-8:00 pm

Join us for a series of Halloween-themed events at the Oklahoma Center for the Humanities (OCH)!

Colorfully illustrated and dense with lore, the 78 cards of the tarot attract our collective imagination both in times of turmoil and eras of reason.

In this lecture and live demonstration, we will explore the evolution of the cards over six centuries and their role as mirror and window for the cultures they occupy. What does a random card draw tell us about synchronicity? How can engage with symbol enrich our lives? And how can we preserve our sense of free will while entering into dialogue with Fate?

We’ll be giving away free copies of Chang’s book to the first 20 people, and attendees will have a chance to win a tarot deck!

T. Susan Chang has been reading tarot for 26 years. She is the author of “The Living Tarot: Connecting the Cards to Everyday Life for Better Readings” (Llewellyn 2023), “Tarot Correspondences: Ancient Secrets for Everyday Readers” (Llewellyn 2018), and “36 Secrets: A Decanic Journey through the Minor Arcana of the Tarot” (Anima Mundi 2021); she is the co-author of “Tarot Deciphered: Decoding Esoteric Symbolism in Modern Tarot” (Llewellyn 2021). She created and hosted, with Mel Meleen, the Fortune’s Wheelhouse esoteric tarot podcast (www.patreon.com/fortuneswheelhouse), which explores imagery and symbolism in each card of Golden Dawn-based decks like the Rider Waite Smith and Thoth tarots.

She has been certified as a professional tarot reader by the American Tarot Association, offers online tarot readings and tarot mentorship sessions, and currently teaches the Living Tarot, an online tarot course for all levels of reader experience, to over 350 students. She has offered courses on tarot for Atlas Obscura, the Jung Platform, the Philadelphia Jung Society, and the Jung Society of Washington, and presented at the Omega Institute, StaarCon, The International Divination Event, Northwest Tarot Symposium, and other local tarot meetups and bookstores. She is also the creator of the Arcana Case® for tarot decks, which can be found at www.etsy.com/shop/tarotista, along with her line of astrological perfumes and tarot talismans, and she is a frequent podcast guest in the occult community.

Besides her work in tarot, she is the co-presenter of “Godsong: 365 Days with Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey,” an online course with Jack Grayle. She writes occasional cookbook reviews for NPR and is the author of the 2011 food memoir A Spoonful of Promises; in the spring, she teaches an undergraduate course on “Writing about the Senses” for Smith College.

Her offerings, events, and blog posts can be found at www.tsusanchang.com. On Facebook she can be found at the Fortune’s Wheelhouse Academy group; on Instagram and Twitter she is @tsusanchang.
