“Shedding Some Light on the Dark Ages”

January 31, 2024, 6:00 pm-7:30 pm

Free

TU students join the Honors College for this lecture series on Middle Ages and Renaissance.

In 476, the Roman Empire fell and, with it, classical civilization. The “Dark Ages” began…or did they?

This lecture will offer an introduction to the history of Europe and the Mediterranean during Late Antiquity and the Early Middle Ages (c. 300-950 AD/CE). These years certainly witnessed many political, cultural, and intellectual changes. But beyond a significant volcanic event that literally obscured the sun in 536, they were far from “dark.”

The lecture, given by Dr. Jon Arnold of the Kendall College of Arts and Sciences, will be held in Chapman Lecture Hall beginning at 6:30pm. A brief social will precede the event, with time for questions afterwards.

This lecture is part of the Honors College’s Spring Lecture Series on the Middle Ages and Renaissance.
