A History of the Goths in Late Antiquity – Cadenhead-Settle Memorial Lecture 2026

March 9, 7:00 pm-9:00 pm

Please join us on March 9th as Noel Lenski, Dunham Professor of Classics and History and Chair of Classics at Yale University, gives a rousing history of the Goths from their first appearance along the Black Sea and Danube in 3rd century sources through their greatest hits (as it were) in the Roman Empire – The Battle of Adrianople, the Sack of Rome, and the collapse of the Hunnic Empire – and on to Gothic successor kingdoms in the West (Ostrogothic Italy and Visigothic Spain). Dr. Lenski will draw from his current work on a translation of the Forum Iudicum, a late 7th-century legal compilation from the Visigothic Kingdom.

The Cadenhead-Settle Memorial Lecture honors two former TU faculty members who taught history for decades.
