March First Friday Art Crawl
March 1, 6:00 pm-9:00 pm
Visit the Oklahoma Center for the Humanities at 101 Archer during the First Friday Art Crawl! We will have two exhibits on display, as well as a Somatic Movement class on our second floor at 6:30 p.m.
WANDERING SPIRIT: AFRICAN WAX PRINTS is a vivid exhibition that documents the history and development of the handmade designs and patterns on textiles that originated in Indonesia and were copied and industrialized by Europeans and exported to Africa. C urated by Dr. Gifty Benson and organized by ExhibitsUSA/Mid-America Arts Alliance of Kansas City, Missouri, this exhibit traces the developmental pathway of African wax prints and tells how these fabrics reflect the stories, cultures and personalities of the people who wear them.
WANDERING SPIRIT is on display through March 30.
OK, PLAY! features historical documents, photographs, sports equipment, and memorabilia from many familiar teams and organizations, including Tulsa Oilers hockey, the Tulsa Drillers, Chili Bowl Nationals racing, FC Tulsa, and the TU Golden Hurricane. The exhibit also looks at the untold history of Black baseball in Tulsa, as well as teams that have migrated, like the Tulsa Oilers baseball team and the WNBA Shock. Additionally, it sheds light on the thriving, but often overlooked sports of Oklahoma—Native American stickball, All-Indian fast pitch softball, Tulsa’s Roughneck Roller Derby, as well as our city’s rich history of figure skating.
OK, PLAY is on display until March 30.
