Luck is a Fortune: Books & Bagels Discussion
November 12, 8:30 am-9:30 am
FreeLuck is a Fortune, by Bob Pickering, Ph.D., Professor emeritus in anthropology, R. M. and Ida McFarlin Dean of McFarlin Library
Researching first person historical narratives presents technical challenges and can reveal unexpected connections. The diary of Lt. MCM Hammond and the Reminiscences of Pvt. John Fynn provide personal insights into life in and around Fort Gibson, America’s southwestern-most frontier fort in 1840. Their stories illuminate this little known period of American history, and reveal political, racial, class, and gender issues of the time.
Join Dr. Pickering in the McFarlin Library faculty study for a discussion of his work with first person narratives in his latest book Luck is a Fortune.
Coffee and Bagels will be served.
