Kevin Dettmar will be in conversation with Bob Dylan Center Senior Director Steven Jenkins about his new book, Punk in 50 Pieces, just published by HarperCollins to celebrate the 50th anniversary of punk rock. Dettmar will discuss the history and impact of punk rock—as well as answer questions from the audience about everything from his choice of 50 songs to the meaning of punk for music and for culture more broadly. Magic City Books will also be at onsite at 101 Archer selling Kevin’s exhilarating new book.

About the guest speaker:
Kevin Dettmar splits his research and teaching between British & Irish modernism, especially James Joyce, and contemporary popular music. A literary, music, and cultural critic, he has written for academic anthologies as well as popular publications like The Atlantic Monthly and The Chronicle of Higher Education. He is the co-editor for Oxford University Press book series Modernist Literature & Culture, and general editor of the Longman Anthology of British Literature. Professor Dettmar taught at Loyola Marymount University, Clemson University, Columbia University, and Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, before coming to Pomona College in 2008. He is currently W.M. Keck professor of English and director of the Humanities Studio at Pomona College.
