“Harmony and the High Middle Ages”

February 19, 6:30 pm-8:00 pm

Free

Join Dr. Donald Prudlo and the Honors College for our Spring lecture series on the Medieval and Renaissance World!

It has come to be popularly assumed that the Middle Ages was a time of backwardness, barbarism, and butchery. This lecture will turn that idea on its head. Far from retrogression, the central Middle Ages produced one of the finest cultural moments in human history. The unification of Athens, Jerusalem, and Rome begun by early Christianity reached its zenith during this period, and breakthroughs were made in every field of human endeavor in pursuit of the True, the Good, and the Beautiful. Come hear how “Monty Python’s Holy Grail” might not be the introduction to this period that you need, and see how modernity itself may have brought deterioration when measured against the achievements of the “medieval moment.”

The talk will be preceded by a social, beginning at 6 p.m.
