2021 marks the anniversary of the Tulsa Race Massacre, characterized by the intersection of various forms of panic: racial, gendered, sexual, economic and cultural. There were approximately 800 people admitted to the hospital, about 6,000 Black people left homeless and 39 people dead. This year’s symposium will draw attention to the panic that underlay the hate crimes committed during this historic event by welcoming paper proposals on topics related to panic represented in or exacerbated by literature, film, official documents and other media from any time period or location.
Our keynote speaker is Dr. Kristin Mahoney of Michigan State University.
There will be no registration fees for this event and all panels and symposium events will be virtual on Microsoft Teams. Any inquiries should be sent to Steven Maulden; email@example.com.
