Capturing the Past: An Oral History Workshop

September 26, 6:00 pm-8:00 pm

Free

Gilcrease Museum invites you to the Helmerich Center for American Research for the annual Eddie Faye Gates program. In honor of Eddie Faye Gates and her legacy as an oral historian, hear why capturing the living past through oral history is important today, and learn best practices for producing your own oral histories. The event will be co-led by Sarah Milligan, Hyle Family Endowed Professor and head of the Oklahoma Oral History Research Program (OOHRP) at the Oklahoma State University Library, and Autumn Brown, assistant professor at OOHRP. The workshop will look at the work of Eddie Faye Gates as a model for documenting community history and provide an overview of oral history project planning, interview techniques, recording equipment, and will address topics of ethics and archival considerations. Refreshments will be served.

This event is free and open to the public. Registration is required at https://my.gilcrease.org/28342.

Please email jana-gowan@utulsa.edu with any questions.
