About the Truman Scholarship
The Truman Scholarship provides up to $30,000 for graduate study, leadership training, career counseling and special opportunities for scholars to work in the federal government. Since 1977, the Truman Foundation has sought to identify and support future “change agents” dedicated to making a difference in the world through public service leadership—be it in government, education, the non-profit sector or elsewhere.
Key Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for the university’s nomination, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Academic Status: Must be a full-time student with junior-level standing
- Academic Achievement: Must have an excellent academic record (typically a GPA of 3.5 or higher).
- Public Service Commitment: Must have an established record of leadership and community service and a clear, compelling commitment to a career in public service.
- Graduate School Plan: Must be pursuing graduate education in a public service-related field (e.g., public policy, education, public health, social work, economics, etc.).
- U.S. Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. national.
The Internal Pre-Application Process
Our university can nominate a limited number of candidates. The internal pre-application process is mandatory for institutional endorsement and provides you with personalized mentorship, advising, and editing before the national deadline.
Please complete this pre-application form on or before December 1st to be considered.
