Artist Talk and Gallery Reception, Anh-Thuy Nguyen

Multimedia artist Anh-Thuy Nguyen will be giving a public lecture in relation to her solo exhibition Thuy &, currently on display at the Alexandre Hogue Gallery. The lecture will occur in Phillips Hall 211 at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 12. There will also be a reception from 6-7 p.m. in the Alexandre Hogue Gallery following her talk. Both events are free and open to the public.

Thuy & is an exhibition that features multimedia artist Anh-Thuy Nguyen. The show includes a series of still photographs, installations, small sculptures and videos that highlight complex relationships and cultural conflicts resulting from the artist’s personal experience of existing between two cultural identities: Vietnamese and American. “Thuy,” a semi-autobiographical character depicted in the exhibition, was inspired by the artist’s yearning for home in Vietnam.

Anh-Thuy graduated from Southern Methodist University with an MFA specializing in photography and video. She also received a BFA in photography from the University of Arizona and a B.A. in economic geography from the University of Social Sciences & Humanities in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Anh-Thuy lives and works in Tucson, Arizona, where she is the head of the photography program at Pima Community College.
