AI For Good: Empowering Communities through Technology with Black Tech Street’s Tyrance Billingsley II

September 16, 12:00 pm-1:30 pm

Join Tulsa Innovation Labs and TU’s Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AIML) Club for a Lunch & Learn with Tyrance Billingsley II, founder and CEO of Black Tech Street and the Greenwood AI Center of Excellence.

Since its founding in 2021, Black Tech Street has worked toward Historic Black Wall Street’s rebirth as an AI innovation economy. In May of this year, Black Tech Street and Microsoft opened the Greenwood Cyber + AI Lab, giving the Tulsa community a space where anyone can build alongside Microsoft engineers, free of charge, with no intellectual property strings attached. The lab anchors a center funded with $10.6 million of Tulsa’s $51 million federal Tech Hubs award and it sits alongside a growing set of Black Tech Street’s other local efforts — including its ASPIRE program building community-wide AI fluency, its partnership with NVIDIA to train 10,000 Tulsans in AI, and its work with Tulsa Public Schools on educator training and student certification pathways.

On Wednesday, Sept. 16, from 12–1:30 p.m. in Keplinger Hall 2040, we’ll host a discussion ranging from what responsible innovation actually requires to how bias enters AI systems, who is accountable when it does and why proximity to a community produces better technology for it. We’ll explore how AI tools can widen access to jobs, education, and capital, weigh the ethical questions shaping AI today and consider real examples of technology built for public benefit. Come ready to learn where your own path might intersect with this work — much of which is happening just a few miles from campus.
