A Bridge to Robotics: From University to Boston Dynamics

November 22, 2024, 1:00 pm-2:00 pm

One of life’s unique transitions is from going from a collegiate scholar to a professional. The adaptability needed to fit into an existing organization or build one from the ground up is a test for any graduate – regardless of accomplishments. The delicate balance requisite to push for success while also maintaining internal stability can be easily tipped. And the exuberance necessary to love what you do and be passionately invested in your work is invaluable. This talk will present these three keys that have taken me from being an entry level engineer to a staff engineer at one of the most interesting places I’ve ever worked, Boston Dynamics. Along our journey, we will also see both the differences and similarities that exist when working in robotics focused software vs other software industries.

Please join us for a talk from Colton Hurt, Staff Software Engineer at Boston Dynamics, where he splits his expertise between developing Stretch, an innovative warehouse robot, and Orbit, a cutting-edge cloud solution for managing Boston Dynamics’ robotic fleets. He holds both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Oklahoma’s accelerated Master’s program.
