A Book as a Book / A Book as Art Exhibit

August 14, 2024

On view through Nov. 30, 2024

Artists’ books are the subject of our newest exhibit in Special Collections at McFarlin Library. Artists’ books are works of art that take the form or function of a book, and often challenge our notion of what a book is and can be. Some have two boards and a text block, while another might be a fold-out pyramid telling the story of the 1980 eruption of Mt. St. Helens through aerial photography. Many artists’ books are limited edition, with only a handful made.

Visitors are welcome to come to Special Collections on the 5th floor of McFarlin Library to see a selection of our beautiful artists’ books on display through 2024. Enter the building at the Plaza Level and take the elevator in the southeast corner of the building to floor 5. Exit to your right and ring the doorbell. Our department is open to visitors Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
