9th-Grade Kick Start Symposium: TU STRETCHED

March 27, 2024

The University of Tulsa’s TU STRETCHED program will be partnering with OSU-COM and Will Rogers High School to host the STRETCHED 9th-grade Character Development Symposium. 150 high school students from Hale, Booker T., Edison, Will Rogers, Jenks, Union, and East Central high schools will be attending.

About the Event
The TU STRETCHED 9th-grade Character Development Symposium was created to help students understand the importance of intrinsic motivators such as resiliency, diligence, perseverance, and time management as they consider a healthcare career. The event emphasizes the importance of participating in health-related clubs, networking events, and shadowing and mentoring opportunities. Students hear from a keynote speaker, participate in breakout sessions, and take a career interest and personality test to help them understand how a specific profession might fit with their unique personality. Opening remarks will be delivered by Dr. Ebony Johnson, Superintendent of Tulsa Public Schools. Our keynote speaker will be Chasity Hooker, TU BSN Student. As part of the event there is a Health Sciences Interest Fair, where students receive information about opportunities to join clubs, shadowing and mentoring experiences, summer programs, and academic programs students can begin taking while still in high school. This event is sponsored by TU, OSU-COM, and Telligen Community Initiative.
