TU Learning Assessment Project (TULAP)

TU’s University Assessment office is seeking faculty to participate in the Annual TULAP Assessment. During this assessment faculty review samples of student work collected from block courses. TULAP assessment session is held each spring at the end of the academic year.

TULAP is a direct evaluation assessment process that accesses Institutional Learning Outcomes of writing, critical thinking, ethical reasoning, and citizenship. Faculty score student writing samples using American Association of Colleges and University designed rubrics that were edited by TU faculty to reflect TU educational outcomes. The Institutional Learning Outcomes under review for TULAP 2018 are “Write Clearly” and “Think Critically.” There will be a stipend and lunch each day provided for reviewers.  Participants may attend one or both scoring sessions.

Scoring participants agree to:

1. Attend a minimum of one orientation session (not required for returning scorers)

2. Participate in a calibration session on the day of scoring

3. Score students writing samples using the selected rubrics

4. Provide feedback to the office of assessment for inclusion in the fall TULAP faculty workshop.

Feedback from previous participants shared that the TULAP experience gave them a deeper understanding of the role university assessment and they felt directly incorporated improving the learning process for our students. Our hope is that this experience will be a setting where faculty use their talents to evaluate the student writing and dialogue with each other in a cooperative process.
