Growing up Palestinian: Healing the Wounds of War

Award-winning Palestinian American author, poet, translator, artist and educator Ibtisam Barakat was born in Beit Hanina, East Jerusalem, and grew up in Ramallah, Palestine. She is the author of the memoirs Tasting the Sky and Balcony on the Moon, about her childhood and adolescence in Palestine. Her work, which centers on healing social injustices, especially in the lives of young people, has been translated into several languages.

We are honored to host this conversation with Barakat, who will talk candidly about what it was like to be a child whose world was shattered by war.

Sponsored by TU's Creative Writing Program and the Oklahoma Center for the Humanities.
