Drop-In Studio

Are you feeling creative but need some inspiration? Explore new materials and concepts each month under the guidance of Gilcrease teaching artists. Studio activities can be adapted for visitors of all ages and backgrounds. All supplies/materials provided.

Winter/Spring 2018 Topics

January
Learn watercolor techniques such as wet-on-wet and dry brush, and experiment with chemical activators as well as liquid watercolors.
 
February
Create a mixed media collage and try blending, layering, sewing, transfer and sculptural techniques. Bring a copy of a photo or photos that you can incorporate into your work to personalize it.
 
March
Experiment with different pen and ink drawing techniques such as hatch-making and washes, and explore the integration of lettering into artwork.
 
April
Engage your creative thinking under the guidance of a teaching artist who will introduce you to inspiring additive printmaking processes that integrate recycled materials.
 
May
Discover how color relationships and choices affect a work’s aesthetic and mood and apply your newfound knowledge to a work of art inspired by nature’s exquisite spring palette. Materials to explore include oil and chalk pastels.
