Aria Rising is a dynamic, rotating, interactive installation sculpture created from entirely recycled and repurposed materials. The purpose of this art installation is to facilitate awareness of sexual assault and to create an interactive experience for the viewers that promotes education, understanding and compassion.
The main objectives of this installation are:
• to provide opportunity for communities to be made aware of the issue of sexual assault
• to provide educational and counseling resources
• to invite the community to interact with the work, which symbolizes the singular voice of an assault survivor empowered by the messages of hope provided by those interacting with her
The exhibit is sponsored by Lambda Chi Alpha in partnership with TU's Advocacy Alliance and the Student Alliance for Violence Education.
Background of Aria Rising
She began as a broken mannequin and a pile of trash. From these discarded pieces, Aria Rising became a symbol of hope. Inspired by the work of Angel Band Project (a nonprofit partner that uses music as therapy for victims of intimate partner and sexual abuse) and to raise awareness and empathy within the greater community, the Divinemoira Studio design team created this interactive sculpture. Viewers are invited to fill Aria's empty bottles with messages of hope and understanding.
